How to Dress Like the Women of Succession

Power outfits inspired by Shiv Roy and other characters from the hit HBO show Succession.

By Emma Steinbergs

If you haven’t watched the latest episode of Succession, don’t worry, I’m not here to talk plot. I would never—especially after I recently witnessed two friends get into it over what qualifies as a spoiler. Apparently, saying an episode was “good” toes that line.

That brings me to my next point: People are passionate about this show—and that includes me and my colleagues. True story: Maria, our Director of Brand & Integrated Marketing, once popped into a Zoom meeting wearing a sweatshirt that read, “You can’t make a Tomlette without breaking a few Greggs.” The M.M.-Succession obsession has also been cemented by a few run-ins with the cast. Our founder and CEO, Sarah LaFleur, once met Sarah Snook (Shiv) and Kieran Culkin (Roman) at our office’s favorite coffee shop, and last fall, I spotted Matthew Macfadyen (Tom) as I was heading home from our Upper East Side store.

I assure you that M.M.’s culture has little to nothing in common with that of Waystar Royco, but we do get a kick out of the brilliant (albeit crass) writing and are fascinated by the workplace politics. As you might suspect, we’re also enamored with the clothes. From Shiv Roy’s high-waisted pant suits to Naomi Pierce’s cool-girl aesthetic, there are looks for everyone—and we’re here to tell you that you don’t need a trust fund to achieve them.

Below, see eight outfits inspired by Shiv Roy and other stylish women from the HBO hit Succession.

1.

Keep It Classic

Personally, I think Shiv Roy (played by Sarah Snook) is the star of the show, and sartorially speaking, so is her closet. I may not admire her moral code (or lack thereof), but I’d take her closet full of tailored blazers, high-waisted trousers, and neutral-hued knits in a heartbeat. If you share Shiv’s penchant for classic silhouettes in luxe fabrics, try one of our sharkskin suits like the Gaia blazer and matching Tinsley trousers. For your underpinning, our best-selling Nora top adds an elegant cowl-neck detail; plus, its lightweight fabric will help you stay cool in case you get into a heated fight about the family business. Finish off the look with simple accessories like the black Ginger pumps and silver Lyssa earrings.

Hygge—But Make It Summer

Last week’s Norway episode provided plenty of outfit inspiration, but as summer nears, we’re looking to bring a bit more breathability and a little less hygge into our lives. That said, you can still enjoy a chic Scandinavian aesthetic amidst rising temperatures by wearing seasonally appropriate silhouettes in rich, warm hues. Take notes from Shiv’s unexpectedly playful look by pairing the clementine Paige tank with the plaid Mejia pants, and layer in additional texture with the buttery Carter slides and shiny Esti earrings.

3.

Laid-Back Luxury

Naomi Pierce (played by Annabelle Dexter-Jones) may not be a consistent main character on Succession, but she sure has main-character energy—which is only magnified by her incredibly cool sense of style. If you want to channel her modern minimalism, go with black and white summer essentials like the sleeveless Alina T-shirt and linen Madelyn pants. Complete your luxurious, laid-back look with easy leather slides and geometric earrings.

The Jet-Set-Ready Suit

Clothing-wise, there’s nothing that says “You can trust me to run a multi-billion-dollar media empire” like OrigamiTech. Hear me out: This innovative fabric pairs wrinkle-resistance and machine-washability with the look of suiting—ensuring you’ll operate efficiently and appear put-together anywhere you go. Next time you’re headed on your private jet a business trip, channel Power Travel with the matching Moreland jacket and Colby pants, which you can even wear on the flight if you want. The also-travel-friendly Lagarde shirt is a foolproof underpinning, while metallic flats and iridescent earrings dress the whole thing up in an instant.

5.

A Beautifully Bold Move

While we often question the judgment of Kerry Castellabate (played by Zoe Winters), we can endorse a handful of her outfits, including this bright blue suit. If you’re looking to bring out a bolder side of yourself, give the Janette jacket and Allyn pants a shot. These lightweight ponte suiting separates are remarkably flexible in terms of both stretch and versatility, so you can live your most spontaneous life this summer. Add other elevated, knit styles like the Peggy tank and Lana boots to achieve head-to-toe stretch.

Shiv’s Favorite Formula

It seems that the only thing Shiv loves more than ruthlessly ridiculing her husband Tom is layering a turtleneck under a structured blazer. For a spring-friendly take on her powerful look, select lightweight-leaning styles like the silk jersey Elizabeth turtleneck and the stretch houndstooth O’Hara blazer. Black trousers and black shoes will let your patterned jacket stand out, and the Claressa hoops and necklace recreate her look to near perfection.

7.

Justice for Gerri

In my opinion, Gerri (played by J. Smith-Cameron) is an incredibly underrated character. Never one to take any B.S. from the Roy siblings, she maintains a quiet confidence, which her clothing helps to convey. For a ready-within-minutes power outfit, try the maroon Ciela dress, the classic Ginger pumps, and gold jewelry like the Claressa hoops and Hugo necklace set. You’ll be ready in a flash and feel like you could take on a jam-packed board room—or remain unphased by Roman’s chaotic behavior.

8.

Moody in Blue

Personally, all my favorite Shiv outfits involve tonal palettes. There’s just something about her way of mixing monochromatic separates that looks enviably nonchalant—like she doesn’t fuss over her clothes but still manages to be one of the best-dressed people in the room. You can emulate this particular navy look with the lustrous Tatum top, the leggy Horton pants, and the lapis lazuli Shinique earrings. For shoes, the strappy Ella sandals will accentuate your sleek silhouette without distracting from your moody blues.
