How to Dress like the Baby-Sitters Club Girl in Your Heart

You're never too old to play dress up.

By Caitlin Abber

Maybe it’s because we’re desperately in need of some nostalgia these days, or maybe it’s because we’re DESPERATELY in need of someone to look after our kids, but we can’t stop binge-watching Netflix’s new Baby-Sitters Club series. The stories are pretty close to the 1980s plotlines (divorced parents, a girl from the big city moves to a small town), but the outfits are so chicly 2020. In fact, the looks are so on point, they’re practically a style guide.

And since everyone has a favorite Baby-Sitters Club character, we thought we’d break down exactly how to dress like each of them. So, are you a Mary Anne or a Claudia?

Kristy Thomas

The inventor of the Baby-Sitters Club, Kristy is a young woman who isn’t afraid to take charge. And when it comes to getting dressed, she knows what she likes (pants) and refuses to compromise (no dresses!). As an adult, we could totally see Kristy in the front of a conference room, leading an important meeting while looking sharp in a pair of Milo jeans, an oversized Para sweatshirt, and of course, a comfy pair of Koio sneakers. An outfit to get shit done in? You betcha.

Stacey McGill

Stacey is a big-city girl with the clothes to match. Her style is playful but put together, chic, and feminine. All her outfits are well thought-out and classic. A grown-up Stacy would definity take meetings on the go while wearing a crisp pair of Caitlin shorts, paired with the Anna jacket and a pair of elegant and elevated Ella sandals.

Dawn Schafer

Dawn is total best-friend material. She’s got that California cool-girl vibe, while also being extremely loyal and kind. When it comes to dressing, she knows what she likes—laid-back but sophisticated separates. We’d love to see her in the Hockley jeans, the Willow vest, and a pair of Koios (the unofficial sneaker of baby-sitters everywhere?).

Mary Anne Spier

Mary Anne is a true prepster—we’re talking plaid for days. Luckily, we’re also fans of the classic pattern. We’d dress adult Mary Anne (no doubt a high-powered business woman) in the Eudora top, Rowley skirt, and extremely sensible-but-elegant Rowan flats.

Claudia Kishi

The original teen style icon, Claudia Kishi is a risk-taker and a trendsetter. If it’s bright and bold, you know she’s going to love it. Bonus points for statement jewelry. While we didn’t have Claudia top of mind while designing the Camilla top or the Briar earrings, we know she’d absolutely love them. Paired with the Zhou culotte in surf, they create an outfit everyone will be admiring. Oh, and the Koio sneakers, because of course.
