The Outfit Formula That Will Get You Through the Rest of the Winter
These January days call for minimal decision-making and maximum comfort.
The other day, my friend in Dallas texted me lamenting about their abnormally cold weather: “It hasn’t been above freezing since Saturday night! Y’all [Northerners] are built different…” As a Minnesotan living in New York, I’m certainly never phased by a below-freezing forecast, but I assure you, I am not built differently. Sure, my mind is filled with chilly childhood memories—like my mom reminding me not to touch my hair after winter-time swim classes for fear it would snap right off—and yet, I’m pretty sure I’d feel most at home in a seaside villa on the Mediterranean (a girl can dream).
I know the cold, and I loathe the cold—a combination that’s forced me to get very good at dressing for it. So for this month’s Power Casual report, I wanted to share my favorite outfit formula for those winter days when you just can’t be bothered to get dressed:
1 jardigan + 1 no-fuss top + 1 Better Than Denim pant = foolproof (read: quick and comfy) outfit.
To be clear, this formula works year-round, but I tend to rely on it heavily in this homestretch of winter, when all I want to do is spend five minutes longer in my scalding-hot shower. Below, see seven iterations you can wear right now, featuring a special focus on our two brand-new jardigans: the Jennimai and the Anh.
Not familiar with our signature jardigan knits? This family of stretchy, structured styles is one of the first product groups we launched when we started 10 years ago, and it has become one of our most popular categories. Just last week, we released three brand-new silhouettes: the Jennimai, a close cousin of the best-selling Woolf, but with a button closure; the Anh, our first-ever creator collaboration piece; and the Lottie, a gorgeous square-neck dress.

Outfit #1
A Tale of Two Turtlenecks
One of our favorite ways to wear a vest is over a lightweight turtleneck. For the winter months, pop on one of your Axam turtlenecks (I highly recommend owning several), and layer the Anh jardigan on top. As soon as spring hits, trade the Axam for its brand-new, sleeveless sister, the Jett tank, which creates an equally elegant silhouette. Complete your tonal combination with the saddle-colored Roma jeans, the leopard-print Rowan flats, and the dazzling Martine earrings.
Outfit #2
A Cool-Toned Combo
Our best-selling Merritt jardigan is the very style that inspired the Anh and also features blazer-like lapels and an optional waist tie—just add sleeves. For a frosty, winter-chic palette, go with the navy version paired with the washable-silk-charmeuse Vicky tank, the tusk Milo pants, white leather sneakers, and pearl earrings.
Outfit #3
Leaning Into Ivory
Our specific shade of ivory has just the right amount of warmth, making it easy to style with most items in your closet and perfectly appropriate to wear throughout the cooler months. Try pairing the Jolie jardigan and coordinating Paige top with the darker Abby pants, which feature a contrasting stitch that pairs back to your top half. Bookend your warm, wintery-white look with the cognac Rowan flats and the multicolored Tia earrings.
Outfit #4
Playing with Pattern
A riff on of our best-selling Woolf jardigan, the Jennimai has a single button, hip length, and side slits that give it a slightly more fashion-forward feel. I personally love to play up its simplicity and sleekness with solid-colored pieces, but if you want to give it a bit more depth, try layering it over a patterned top like the Annika tee in our brand-new, very charming scribble print. Since this top features a boxier silhouette, balance it out with the slim Roma jeans and the sharp Lana boots.
Outfit #5
A Pop of Pink
Released just five days ago, our carnation hue is already a smash hit. This soft, saturated pink looks truly stunning on everyone and adds that perfect pop of color to all your Power Casual outfits—a styling concept we look forward to exploring more this year. For a slightly unexpected color combination, For a slightly unexpected color combination, wear your Anh jardigan with navy pants like the ink Milo jeans, along with your ivory Axam turtleneck and gold hoops.
Outfit #6
A Sculptural Statement
Our most sculptural jardigan yet, the Yuwei jardigan is a double-breasted style that features a tented silhouette and a bold belt. To make it even cooler, our dark elm color gives it a subtle military-jacket vibe that pairs perfectly with the slightly-relaxed Daria jeans. Fill out the rest of your look with the luxurious, lightweight silk-jersey Shani top, the low-heeled Zelda boots, and the statement Yang earrings.
Outfit #7
An Iconic Contrast
The Jennimai in chai is probably my favorite jardigan yet. The rich camel color paired with the minimalist silhouette is *chef’s kiss* and pairs so easily with my mostly neutral wardrobe. Once I get my hands on our new contrast-stitch, icon-embroidered Leslie T-shirt, I plan to recreate this exact outfit with my kick-flare Archie pants, which I’m actually wearing as I write this. To tie it all together, add a pair of multi-toned flats and some bold gold earrings.
