The One Color You Should Wear, According to Your Astrological Sign

Should Leos wear blue? Capricorns wear pink? Two of M.M.’s astrology experts pair each sign with its most perfect hue.

By Madeleine Kim

Whether or not you believe in astrology, we can all admit that reading our horoscopes is pretty fun. I’m a proud Scorpio, and while I don’t think astrology is *real*, I do derive significant joy from thinking of myself as mysterious, sultry, and independent (who wouldn’t?).

I wanted to embrace my sign fully in 2021, so I asked M.M.’s resident astrology experts—Hanna, our Senior People Operations Manager, and Amanda, our Senior Performance Marketing Manager—to help identify the best color for each sign. We may still be sheltering in place, but that shouldn’t stop us from dressing with purpose—especially when it’s written in the stars.

Aquarius: Colorful Prints

Hanna’s take: Wear a colorful print that’s as unique and free-flowing as the ideas in your head. It’ll be a great conversation starter to help you get past the small talk.

What to wear: Go full-on multicolor with the unexpectedly versatile Lise top in freeform, which you could pair with culottes, colorful trousers, or even a bright pencil skirt. Alternatively, opt for a bold, color-blocked situation with the Marissa top in block print. You could also try the Orchard skirt in mosaic print, which is easy to dress up with heels or down with sneakers and a tee, or the low-key sexy June dress in dash plaid, which makes walking around the block feel more like strutting around the estate.

Pisces: Light Pink

Hanna’s take: Are you already finding yourself deep in your feelings this year? Soothing pastel pinks will give you a little extra comfort through your day.

What to wear: Try swapping your go-to white tee for the buttery soft Alina T-shirt in peony, which looks just as great with jeans as it does tucked into a skirt. If you’re looking for something long-sleeved, the machine-washable Celeste top in rosewater strikes the right balance between tailored and relaxed. Or perhaps you’d like to step things up a notch with the Joslyn dress in peony, which you can wear unbelted with sneakers and a denim jacket for a casual look. Prefer a pop of pink? The flexible Rowan flats in rose are just the thing to slip on before you head out.

Aries: True Red

Hanna’s take: Are you bold enough to say that 2021 will be *your year*? If any sign is, it’s you.  Match that energy with an eye-catching pop of red to bring your fire into the new year.

What to wear: Want to keep things classic? Try the Etsuko in crimson—our best-selling dress of all time—in a color that packs a punch. If you’re ready to turn heads (and, let’s be real, we know you are), you’re ready to wear the Jillian dress in dahlia, a machine-washable showstopper known for being ultra flattering. Not in the mood for a dress? The Harlem skirt in ruby red is comfortable enough to nap in, but you’d never know it based on how sleek and polished it looks. For something more subtle, pair neutral pieces with the comfortable and vibrant Rowan flats in cherry.

Taurus: Deep Red

Hanna’s take: Taureans are known for their earthiness, but you’re probably tired of the usual olives and tans by now. Mix it up a bit with cool, earth-toned reds. New year, new you (but with just a bit of comforting familiarity).

What to wear: The O’Hara blazer and Mejia pant in garnet are more versatile than you might expect. Sure, you can wear them together as a complete suit, but these days, we’re splitting up the set for more mix-and-match options (the O’Hara blazer + boyfriend jeans = chef’s kiss). If you’re not a pants person, perhaps you’ll prefer the Farnoosh dress in Bordeaux, which is just as sophisticated as a really nice bottle of Bordeaux. Of course, you could also just throw on some sweaters for your feet, like the Zelda boots in burgundy, and call it a day.

Gemini: Yellow

Hanna’s take: You deserve a color that will go with all your fabulous sides. Instead of finding a versatile neutral, why not opt for a showstopper that unexpectedly goes with a whole lot? You can tone down bold yellows with khaki or black-and-white sharkskin, but prepare for all eyes on you in these head-turning hues.

What to wear: These days, the swingy, cashmere Sophie sweater in medallion is exactly what we want to be wearing, whether layered over a turtleneck, with some cozy cashmere joggers, or with no pants at all. That said, the moment the sun comes out, we’re switching to the stretchy Dylan dress in Tuscan yellow, a date-night favorite that will inevitably put a smile on your face. The fan-favorite Zhou culottes in goldenrod are ideal for year-round wear (try them layered over tights in the winter), and the Irene slingbacks in canary will cast any outfit in a warm, joyful glow.

Cancer: Bright Pink

Hanna’s take: Whether you feel like hugging everyone (someday!) or just want a little comfort of your own, opt for bright pinks that exude the warmth you have to offer.

What to wear: Speaking of comfort and warmth, have you tried the Marnie sweater in bright pink? The next time you need a pick-me-up, allow yourself to be enveloped by cashmere coziness, and let the empowering embroidery on the sleeve become your mantra for the day. For something more lightweight, the Jane dress in hibiscus is airy, machine-washable, and wrinkle resistant (plus, it looks good on everyone). Prefer separates? Try the Flaka top in hibiscus instead. The Marais pants in raspberry are also a strong option, thanks to their yoga-pant comfort and sleek cigarette-pant shape.

Leo: Orange

Amanda’s take: Orange hues are only fitting for our fiery summer lions. Remember to channel your warm energy with compassion, and don’t fall into old habits of stubbornness.

What to wear: Instead of reaching for a T-shirt, try the Natalie top in carnelian, which has the shape of a T-shirt, but in a beautifully textured knit that looks extra put-together. Perhaps you’re looking for something even more elevated, in which case you should turn to the Twyla top and Zhou culottes in topaz foulard, a gorgeous Italian-silk blend with a mini jacquard pattern. Wear them together, or mix and match with the rest of your wardrobe—anything goes. Ready to go all in on orange? The Giovanna dress in tangerine is bold, bright, and sure to start your day on a high note.

Virgo: Green

Amanda’s take: Allow yourself to let go of your perfectionist tendencies for a moment: Get out in nature and release anything that’s no longer serving you. Your goal in green is to get grounded—you are an Earth sign, after all.

What to wear: The knit Hayden dress in everglade is a quarantine staple—perfect for Zooming from your couch. Like long sleeves? You’ll love the Morgan dress in bamboo, which is full of details that make it look super elevated (a cross-over V-neck, gathering at the waist) but also has enough stretch to keep you comfortable. Of course, you could always go with the Foster pants in olive, a tried-and-true classic with adjustable hems and holds-you-in fabric. Or maybe you’d like to treat yourself to the Luan sweater in kelly green, which delivers exactly the type of cheer we need in the middle of a long winter.

Libra: Light Blue

Amanda’s take: If you’re feeling a little self-indulgent or even self pity, give yourself a break—it’s already been a tough year. Light blue will help you get in touch with your air-like qualities, finding some much needed balance, harmony, and silver linings ahead.

What to wear: For some one-and-done ease, you can’t go wrong with the Maaza in surf, a petite-friendly shift dress with pockets and lightweight, machine-washable fabric. Alternatively, you could dress up some jeans or stretchy pants with a light blue top, like the fringed Flaka in cotton boucle, or the structured Lulu in powder blue. Just looking to lounge? Look no further than the Wesley lounger in dusky blue, a wide-leg pant with an elastic waistband and fabric that doesn’t wrinkle.

Scorpio: Black

Amanda’s take: Scorpios are known to have the deepest of depths. While black represents your darker sides, it also exemplifies your bravery and keen intuition.

What to wear: If you don’t know where your day will take you, wearing the Demi jumpsuit in black is a safe bet. You can dress it up with heels, layer it under a sweater to look like separates, or pair it with your favorite fuzzy socks to curl up on your couch. Speaking of which, the hooded Colette jardigan strikes the perfect balance between polished and incredibly cozy. If you’re craving a bit of texture, you could wear the black-and-white Butler sweater, which goes with most other colors. Or, you could pair the knit Lana boots with just about anything for some oh-so-Scorpio sultriness.

Sagittarius: Gray

Amanda’s take: You don’t need any help standing out (in all the best ways). Use subtle gray to create balance and just a bit of mystery.

What to wear: Once you try on the Sharon top in gray, you simply won’t want to take it off. Wear it as a way more polished alternative to your go-to college hoodie, and I promise you’ll be just as comfy. If you prefer something more lightweight, try the Samara sweater in sea salt—a customer favorite that will put you in the headspace of someone sipping white wine on a breezy beach. Of course, you could also incorporate gray by wearing the Hockley jeans in cool charcoal, which are like regular jeans, but better. Or, simply slip on the Rowan flats in gray croc, which will support both your arches and your aesthetic goals.

Capricorn: Ivory

Amanda’s take: Ambiguous Capricorns, remember that you don’t always have to do it all, and burnout is a real thing. Wear light neutrals like ivory and cream to find some much-needed peace and clarity in all aspects of your life.

What to wear: If you’ve never tried the mock-neck Giulia top in ivory, that would be an excellent place to start. Stretchy, polished, and machine-washable, it lives in the happy medium between a T-shirt and a statement top. Alternatively, if you’re looking for full-on cloud-fit coziness, you could bundle up in the Judith hoodie in cream, which is quicker than taking a bath but has similar calming effects. The elegant Eva skirt in magnolia will make running errands feel like a special event, while the crisp Koio sneakers will give a fresh feel to any look.
