An Ice-Cream-Inspired Outfit Formula for Hot Summer Days

The inside scoop on how to savor the rest of sweaty season.

By Emma Steinbergs | Design by Cindy Luan

Let’s start with the obvious: It’s hot as hell out there. And throughout the foreseeable weeks, you’ll be faced with a choice: Do you want to survive, or do you want to thrive? Sure, you could camp out next to the A/C and avoid breaking a sweat; or, you could savor the remaining days of summer with a couple of cooling coping tactics—think: indulgent ice cream licks and savvy outfit picks.

You don’t seem like one to let a little heat get in your way, so we whipped up an ice-cream-inspired outfit recipe to help you enjoy even the meltiest of days:

Keep scrolling to see a sampling of looks, inspired by five of our favorite flavors.

Look #1

Vanilla

For an ensemble that evokes vanilla without being boring, start with the classic, cream-colored Nora top, and create a crisp contrast with the sleek navy Foster pants. The Nora is machine-washable, wrinkle-resistant, and odor-resistant (thanks to its Polygiene® finish), while the Fosters remain one of our best-selling pants of all time. In other words, this combo holds its own, but try adding the Anh jardigan for a delicious tri-color palette. Complete the look with clean white sneakers and simple gold hoops.

Look #2

Coffee

Are your T-shirts feeling tired? Reinvigorate your rotation with an elevated take called the Annika top. Crafted from our Everyday Crepe material, it’s airy, polished, and designed for life on the go. Grab it in our saddle color, and slip on the off-white Archie jeans for a chic latte-inspired palette. Sky blue slingbacks and bold gold earrings add a jolt of color and shine.

Look #3

Cookies & Cream

If you crave something with a bit of pattern, go with the Katrina top. Made from our drapey Eco Sateen fabric, it features our new cookies & cream black and white Kerala print and balances out sturdier styles like the Daria jean beautifully. Fill out the rest of your base with other black styles, like the Everly belt and Carter slide; once in the shelter of A/C, top it off with the Janette jacket in ash for an element of chocolatiness.

Look #4

Mint

Lightweight and machine-washable, the Vicky tank (now on sale) is as cool as it gets. Even better? It comes in seafoam, a more vibrant version of mint green. For an effortless office outfit, leave it untucked over the leggy Horton trousers, and finish the look with accessories like the strappy Ella sandals, the chain-link Jessel necklace, and the minimalist Claressa hoops.

Look #5

Taro

A little bit quirky and very much on trend, the Roo vest in lilac is a fun alternative to your go-to summer tops. Made from stretch tweed, it’s a secretly practical, non-wrinkly take on warm-weather suiting and looks especially fresh with white jeans like the Milos. Can’t get enough of this color? Add the matching Aniya jacket to make a monochromatic statement, and bookend your look with gold earrings plus caramel slides.
