3 Creative Ways to Get More Out of Your Sweaters

With a little creativity and a whole lot of cozy, a sweater can be one of the most versatile styling tools in your wardrobe.

By Madeleine Kim

Hello and welcome! Before we begin, please take a moment to pour yourself a hot drink. Now, find the comfiest chair in your home, light a candle, and wrap yourself in a fluffy blanket. Is that soft jazz I hear playing in the background? Excellent job. You understood the assignment.

Now that you’re comfortable, let’s talk about the most deliciously cozy type of clothing there is: the sweater. A great sweater is more than a piece of clothing. It’s one of life’s few practical luxuries—like a guilty pleasure minus the guilt.

But you already know that. What you might not know, however, is that with a little creativity, a sweater can be one of the most versatile styling tools in your wardrobe: Wrap a pullover around your shoulders, and it transforms into a chic shawl. Toss it over a T-shirt, and you’ve got a totally new take on layering.

Want to make the most of your sweaters this season? Our Brand Stylist, Nyjerah, put together three easy outfit templates for you to try. Check them out below, with outfits modeled by M.M. teammate Emma.

Go Neck and Neck

Layering your sweaters doesn’t just provide extra warmth. It also gives you the opportunity to have some fun with creative neckline styling. The thing to remember here is that opposites attract: high neckline + low neckline = cozy, chic magic. Try the crew-neck Leslie T-shirt underneath the scoop-neck Theo pullover, and finish your outfit with the Curie pants and Rowan flats.

Double Your Cashmere, Double Your Fun

Too much cashmere is simply…not a thing. That’s why we get really excited when we talk about our plush cashmere sweaters, which are made from an unusually large quantity of extremely fine cashmere yarn, resulting in an extra soft, warm, and fuzzy feel. Even better? You can double up on cashmere on multiple levels: wear the plush cashmere Lea sweater normally, then wrap the Theo as a “scarf” around your shoulders. For the ultimate cold-weather outfit, add the Clark puffer.

Two Knits Are Better Than One

This look proves that more sweaters are always better (are you sensing a theme here?). Create dimension by combining knits with different stitching details. The McKenzie sweater features a fine ribbed stitch and is lightweight enough to fit comfortably under the chunky Snyder sweater. Add the stretchy Foster pants and supportive Koio sneakers for a look that’s straight out of Cameron Diaz’s suitcase in The Holiday—minus the impractical stilettos.
