Take These Sale Items on Vacation Right Now

Finally a reason to put on real clothes.

By Caitlin Abber

We’re entering the final lazy, hazy days of a summer that looks and feels a lot different than any summer before. Normal activities, like hitting up a packed beach or heading to a friend’s pool are off the table, but that doesn’t mean the whole season is a wash. In fact, in areas that are opening up, people are starting to head out and take much-needed vacations. If you’re packing up the car to take an adventure—while masked up and taking the proper precautions, of courrse—we totally get it. This year has been pretty stressful, and you know what? We could all use a judgement-free opportunity to relax right now.

You know what else we could use? A few great, on-sale items to throw in our suitcases. Because if we’re heading off for a little time away from home, the last thing we want to wear are the same sweats we’ve lived in for the last six months.

Here’s what we’d grab from the M.M. sale, depending on our destination (bonus: all of these pieces are great for transitioning into fall, too!).

For a Cozy Cabin in the Woods

I recently spent a week in upstate New York with a small group of friends (we’re a pod!). During the day, I lounged on the deck in my Harriet top and felt the warm sun on my shoulders. But at night, it got chilly. Thankfully, our house had a great firepit, and I was happy to have my Morandi sweater and a pair of trousers I could sit cross-legged and eat s’mores in.

For a Seaside Sojourn

There are a lot of reasons this year is the worst, but on my list, not getting to the beach even once is pretty high up there. If you’re lucky enough to dip your toes in the ocean this summer, do so while wearing the breezy linen Allie top, and a pair of stretchy Foster pants. Afterwards, stuff your face with lobster on an outdoor patio somewhere beautiful.

For Camping (or Glamping, Let’s Be Real)

Really want to get away from it all? Pitch a tent somewhere no one can find you. If you’ve got a camping trip in the future (or glamping, which is more our speed), make sure to pack the Graham Kimono to wear over everything (like the Lise top); the Zhou culottes, which are wrinkle-resistant and cozy enough to sleep in; and the infinity scarf, which could always double as a pillow if needed.

For a Luxe Staycation

If you’ve missed dressing up, now is your chance. Pretend you’re on a business trip (remember those?) or on the other side of the world. Pack for your fantasy vacation, even if you’ve only booked a night at a hotel a few miles away. Wear the Eliza dress, topped with the Mary cardigan for a rooftop dinner, and throw on the Esme earrings because they’ll add that extra pop of glamour you’re looking for.

For Driving Cross-Country

For some people, working remotely really means working remotely. We’ve got friends who packed their lives into their RVs and hit the road for months on end. They’ve taken photos at the Grand Canyon, eaten outdoor barbeque in Nashville, and had a year of adventures they never could have imagined in 2019. But making all those memories requires clothes that are up for the challenge. If you’re heading out into the great unknown, you can’t go wrong with stretchy pants, a loose fitting top, a scarf that doubles as a pillow for backseat naps, and, like your mom always said, a coat in case you get cold.
