Meet the Stylist: Karen Zhou
August 17, 2017 | Filed in: Humans of MM
MM’s stylist team is our secret sauce: They’re a whip-smart, hardworking, big-hearted bunch with a passion for making our customers feel great (and knowing the exact size to send). On any given day, they can be found concocting the perfect Bento Box, styling new outfits from our collection, (wo)manning the floor at a pop-up, or responding to each and every customer email. Next up in our series featuring the individuals that comprise this unstoppable crew: Karen Zhou.
Hometown: Lakeville, Minnesota.
Alma mater and major: Harvard University, Social Studies.
Namesake MM piece: The Zhou culotte.
Most-worn MM piece: The Morandi 2.0 sweater.
Currently reading: 1984, by George Orwell.
Currently watching: Game of Thrones.
Favorite New York City restaurant and menu pick: Carbone, for the spicy vodka rigatoni.
Favorite way to spend a Saturday: Going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, followed by a stroll through Central Park.
Signature styling trick: Adding a touch of color to a neutral outfit with jewel-toned shoes or a belt.
Proudest styling moment: Helping a customer prepare for a trans-Atlantic move. I outlined a number of outfits from her existing MM collection and recommended pieces that would fill wardrobe gaps in her new home, which has a different climate and workplace dress norms.
Dream pop-up destination (and why): London. I lived there for a while before moving to New York and love the city. We could serve tea and biscuits during the pop-up (or maybe something stronger—gin?).
One thing you can’t live without: Tea.
Spirit animal: Monkey.
Hidden talent: I can wiggle my ears.
Go-to desk lunch: Thai green curry from Bite.
Best part about working at MM: Being surrounded by beautiful things and beautiful people (on the inside and out). And we all love food!
