Meet the Stylist: Jessica Mejia
August 04, 2017 | Filed in: Humans of MM
MM’s stylist team is our secret sauce: They’re a whip-smart, hardworking, big-hearted bunch with a passion for making our customers feel great (and knowing the exact size to send). On any given day, they can be found concocting the perfect Bento Box, styling new outfits from our collection, (wo)manning the floor at a pop-up, or responding to each and every customer email. Next up in our series featuring the individuals that comprise this unstoppable crew: Jessica Mejia.
Nickname: Jess.
Hometown: New York, New York.
Alma mater and major: University of Chicago, Romance Languages and Literature.
Namesake MM piece: The Mejia trousers are currently in the pipeline!
Most-worn MM piece: The Etta dress.
Currently reading: L’amica Geniale, the first of the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante.
Currently watching: A Colombian soap opera or two—by which I mean I may catch an episode a week, and my mom fills me in on the rest of the drama. It’s both incredibly hilarious and stressful to pretend she’s telling me stories of people we know. Right now, we’re gripped by the day-to-day of a star witness who plots her own murder, changes her identity (since everyone believes her to be dead) and becomes an undercover DEA agent in Miami.
Favorite New York City restaurant and menu pick: Mama Eatery for curry mixed vegetable noodle soup.
Favorite way to spend a Saturday: True me: sleeping in until 10:00 a.m. Aspirational me: enjoying early morning bike rides along the Hudson River Greenway.
Signature styling trick: Add a shawl to anything. They’re warm and versatile: You can belt them, wrap them, or just let them drape.
Proudest styling moment: I always love working with first-time customers at pop-ups and helping them discover their perfect style and fit in MM. The look on their faces when they find it is so gratifying.
Dream pop-up destination (and why): Hawaii! Our Hawaiian customers are a lovely bunch, and I’d like to meet them.
One thing you can’t live without: Ginger.
Spirit animal: Sea turtle.
Hidden talent: Drawing straight lines without a ruler and perfect circles without a compass.
Go-to desk lunch: Lentil soup and a sliver of avocado.
Best part about working at MM: The ubiquitous respect for snack time.
