This Is What You Should Wear to Your Next Job Interview

It’s a great time to look for a new job, level up, or switch fields entirely. Here’s what to wear to your interview, depending on your career goal.

By Caitlin Abber

Almost every woman I know is on the lookout for a new job right now. Some are trying to return to the workforce after the pandemic forced them to step back, while others are planning on leveling up or switching fields entirely. And then there are the women who, instead of hypnotically watching TikToks before bed, spend their evenings scrolling job openings on LinkedIn and applying to every half-decent posting they see.

This trend is unsurprising, given our current circumstances. Between The Great Shecession and the last 18 months of working from home while juggling kids and unsympathetic managers, there’s an overwhelming, almost universal awareness that people deserve better than just slogging through unsatisfying, often underpaying jobs for the rest of their lives. And so, in the next logical step post-The Great Resignation, they are looking for something better.

Sound familiar? If you’re in the market for a new job or career, here are some resources you might find useful:

If you’re already in the interview process, we can help you there, too. Here are 3 interview-ready looks, depending on your career goals.

If You’re Looking to Go Back to Work

Those first interviews after time away from the workforce can be especially anxiety-inducing, so it’s essential that your outfit supplies you with a major confidence boost. Sure, it’s a little sneaky, but why not dress like this is just one in a bunch of Very Important Professional Meetings you have today? A black turtleneck under a black blazer is the epitome of Power Casual, especially when you choose pieces as luxurious as the Axam top and the Moreland jacket. Because you’re A Very Busy Woman, you’re going to want pants that actually make life easier, like the Colby joggers (hello, pockets and elastic waistband), as well as shoes you can run around town in (or walk the dog in between Zoom calls).

If You’re Looking to Level Up

If you’re ready to advance to the next stage of your career—whether you’re negotiating for a higher position at your current company or interviewing somewhere new—you’ll want to wear something that feels familiar, but fresh. Structured, polished, and timeless, the Etsuko dress is a pre-pandemic classic that hasn’t lost its charm. When paired with the vintage-inspired Lilia jacket, it ascends to a whole new level. Add some high-heeled ankle boots, and you’ll look so chic, even Anna Wintour will be intimidated.

If You’re Looking to Make a Switch

Perhaps over the last year and a half, you found yourself asking questions like, “Is this really what I want to be doing with my life?” or, “Is it too late to try something new?” On your journey to answering these questions, you might find yourself exploring alternative career paths, dabbling in a field you’ve always been curious about, or even promoting your side hustle so you can expand it into full-time work. This process is an optimistic experience, which calls for an optimistic color palette. Our new Soyoung T-shirt in martini is a bold and bright underpinning for the combination of the Yiyan blazer (coming soon) and the Cobble Hill skirt, both in camel. This look is polished but not at all predictable—just like you.
