Sarah LaFleur: CEO & The Woman Behind the Dress

August 12, 2016

Here at MM.LaFleur, we name our dresses after the brilliant employees who make this company great—or, in the case of the Sarah, the one who made this company exist in the first place. Sarah LaFleur, MM’s CEO and Co-founder, got her namesake dress way back in 2012, when we were just a wee baby startup with a handful of offerings (er, a “tightly curated collection”) and even fewer staff members. The signature feature of this simple shift is its sharp, structured shoulder with a notched cut, which covers the tippy-top of the arm without verging into sleeve territory. It’s not only one of our longest-running styles, but also a consistent bestseller.

Sarah in the Sarah 6.0.

As part of our never-ending quest for perfection, the Sarah dress has seen a number of tweaks over the years (hence why it’s now on its sixth version): We took out the pockets, added more definition to the waist, relaxed the fit through the hips, and cut it from five different fabrics—now a lightweight Japanese crêpe that’s a total godsend in this Swamp Thing August weather.

Oh hey, Sarah.

But enough semantics—no one sums up her dress better than Sarah herself:

Favorite part: “The shoulder. It’s a power shoulder.”
Where I’ve worn it: “Investor meetings.”
Its alter ego: “She-Ra, princess of power.”

And that’s why she’s a boss.
