What To Wear From Desk To Dinner

September 27, 2019 | Filed in: Your Closet

Real talk: many of the most lucrative business decisions don’t happen at the office. They happen over dinner. We’re talking martinis and oysters, not room temperature coffee and emails. Still, the day demands you dress for both, even if you don’t have time to go home and change in between.

Thankfully, gone are the days when you need to slip into a cocktail dress in order to enjoy a Manhattan. Now you’ll look perfect in any establishment in a smart pair of pants and a jersey top with subtle ruching, or a business-forward power dress that commands the room.

Below, our ideas on dressing from desk to dinner without overthinking it.

The Drop Dead Gorgeous Dress

Let’s start with the big bang: the dress that will get you that funding, launch a million partnerships, and definitely prevent you from ever getting to inbox zero again in this decade. The Dina dress is a one-piece workhorse that is as elegant as it is useful. Did we mention it has pockets? It has pockets!

The Jersey Combo, Part 1

The Fey top, the Soho skirt, and the Bezel earrings.

It’s not a dress, even though it kind of looks like one. This slinky, soft, and stretchy combo of the Fey top and the Soho skirt is as comfy as it is professional, and the color, a bright regent blue, is as much of a pleasant surprise in the office as it is at an after-work-drinks-thing (or even on a date).

The Jersey Combo, Part 2

If you liked Jersey Combo, Part 1, you will LOVE our second mix-and-match set. This combo of the looks-good-on-everyone (seriously) Minetta skirt with the Mirren top is like the t-shirt and jeans of desk to dinner looks, except better (because it’s more like a t-shirt and t-shirt). And of course, you can always swap out any of our other jersey separates to create a new look. Just like your future, the possibilities are endless.

The Pants Party

The Mirren top, the Mejia pant, the Wide Strap belt, and the Bezel earrings.

Like we said, dresses are no longer a requirement, so if you’re a pants girl, by all means, wear pants. We love this combo of the Mirren top with our classic Mejia pant in sharkskin. Throw on a pair of Ginger pumps and our Wide Strap belt, and you’ll look as put together as any woman in a little black dress.

The Not-So-Subtle Suit

The Carmen jacket, the Wilder top, the Noho skirt, the Bezel necklace, and the Bezel earrings.

Finally, we have to go with an updated, upgraded, and so much more than a suit, suit. The Carmen jacket in sharkskin with a pair of Noho skirt isn’t just the outfit you wear when you want to make subordinates sweat, it’s also what you wear to feel the most confident at literally any type of work meeting, function, or social event. A job interview? Check. Speaking at a conference? Check. A nine-course dinner with foreign dignitaries? Yes, definitely. The Carmen jacket has pockets, too, because yeah, we got you.
