10 Extra On-Sale Styles to Lower Your Cost Per Wear

The best-priced, most versatile styles from our sale.

By Madeleine Kim

How do you determine whether something is a good deal? Personally, I like to use a metric called cost per wear. Cost per wear = the cost of an item divided by the number of times you wear it. The lower an item’s cost per wear, the better a deal it is.

There are two ways to lower your cost per wear. One approach is to focus on buying inexpensive pieces. For example, if you buy a $20 shirt and wear it seven times (the average number of times a fast fashion piece is worn), your cost per wear will be $2.80. Not bad for your wallet—but horrible for the environment.

If you can, a far better way to lower your cost per wear is to invest in high-quality, versatile pieces that will last a long time and pair well with other pieces in your wardrobe. Take the Theo sweater, which is currently on sale for $225. I’ve worn mine at least 50 times since I bought it in 2022. Let’s say, conservatively, that I’ll double that number over the next few years, taking my total wears to 100. At our current sale price, that would put my cost per wear at $2.25. Great for your wallet and far friendlier to the planet.

Below, I’ve compiled 10 of the best-priced, most versatile styles from the sale.

1. A More Elevated Version of a T-Shirt

$160 $225

I often find myself attending events where I want to wear something more elevated than a T-shirt but less fancy than, say, a silk tank or a button-down blouse. The Charli top is perfect for those in-between times (think: a casual dinner party at a friend’s house, or an afternoon birthday celebration at a wine bar). I love that the Charli has the cut of a tee, so it’s easy to style, but its textural knit and slight sheen give it that extra bit of polish.

2. A Cashmere Cloud of a Sweater

$225 $495

I’ve written before about how Theo sweater is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Two years later, I stand by it. The Theo is made from our luxurious plush cashmere, which uses a large quantity of extra-fine fibers to create a uniquely soft and warm knit. I’ve worn it with slip dresses, jeans, button-downs, and even pajamas on cozy nights in.

3. A Timeless Peacoat

$415 $695

Buying a luxurious coat may be an investment, but it’s a great one. After all, what other item do you wear as often as your favorite coat? The Kasha coat, originally $695, is now on sale for just over $400, and with its classic cut, luxe double-face construction, and warm wool-cashmere blend, your cost per wear will surely be in the pennies.

4. A Bestseller in a Retiring Neutral

$125 $255

To know M.M.LaFleur is to know (and love) the Foster pants: the stretchy, sleek, easy-to-style cigarette pants beloved by tens of thousands. We’re retiring our chic bone shade, so now’s your chance to get it—for less than half of the original price. Fit tip: The Foster pant runs small. Our stylists recommend sizing up.

5. A Dress You’ll Want to Wear Every Day

$155 $355

With its elegant mockneck, figure-skimming silhouette, and punchy plaid, the Farnoosh is a true power dress. It’s also ridiculously comfortable, thanks to its stretchy and cozy knit. No wonder one five-star reviewer wrote, “I wish I could wear it every day!”

6. A Blazer with a Big Personality

$240 $475

The Gaia jacket is one of those rare pieces that could be considered both business formal and fashion-forward. It would look right at home at a law office, but I could also picture it on a red carpet (or, more realistically in my own life, at a holiday party). For that reason, this double-breasted beauty is sure to be a low cost-per-wear item—not to mention the fact that it’s a steal at just $240.

7. Our CEO’s Go-To Long-Sleeve Tee

$125 $235

At the M.M. office, the start of fall is marked by the appearance of our founder and CEO, Sarah LaFleur, in her beloved Rae top. Whether she’s wearing it with stretchy Better Than Denim jeans to play with her three young kids, or underneath a suit for a board meeting, Sarah swears by the comfort and ease of this polished tee.

8. A Jacket That Makes Every Outfit Look Cool

$175 $345

I’m not exaggerating when I say I get compliments every time I wear my Sierra shacket. I love how its oversized button-down cut gives it an easygoing feel, while the faux leather fabric provides some sophisticated edge. Not all vegan leather is created equal, so I appreciate how soft and stretchy this one feels—no stiffness whatsoever.

9. An Upgrade to Your Shirtdress

$200 $535

If you love a good shirtdress, the Pepper is a necessary addition to your collection. In our washable silk charmeuse, it’ll be your go-to piece for everything from weddings and cocktail parties to date nights. The best thing about this style? It has an optional sash and buttons at the waist, so you can customize how relaxed or fitted you’d like it to be.

10. A Too-Good Pair of Work Pants

$165 $295

The Smith pants have everything you could want in a pair of work pants: a just-right rise; tailor-friendly hems; belt loops; and a trend-proof shape that won’t go out of style. And in our check plaid, they bring a splash of fun to your office looks. They only have one issue, which this reviewer summed up perfectly: “The only problem is that I now want every color.”
