Let’s talk about blue. It’s one of the most ubiquitous colors (especially if you look at recent M.M. collections), but it can also be one of the more confounding. Sometimes it’s a neutral (see: ink), sometimes it’s a bold statement color (see: Olympic blue). There are strong opinions about which colors it can and can’t be worn with (looking at you, black and navy), and it’s one of the colors our stylists get asked about the most.
To make it all just a little bit easier, we had our Brand Stylist, Nyjerah, put together a comprehensive color-pairing guide for our newest blues. And it turns out there are so many more unexpected-but-amazing combos than we previously thought possible (classic Nyjerah, going above and beyond). A New Take on Nautical
When I think of blue and white, I usually think nautical. But something about this Capri-and-tusk combo feels different. Maybe it’s the brightness of the blue or the floaty lightness of our gingham fabric (which is also odor-resistant, perfect for long days in the sun), but this pairing feels less preppy sailor and more Italian-beach vacationer. The Ellen top can be worn untucked and cinched at the waist, or you can tuck it into your Milo jeans and repurpose the sash as a headband—why not? Add the Briar earrings in indigo to complete the color palette.
Hot and Cold
Most blues are cool tones, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pair them with warmer colors. A warm neutral like camel might not be the most intuitive pairing for vibrant Olympic blue, but it totally works (I mean, don’t I look great?). The Antoinette top in Olympic blue has a faux-wrap construction that makes you look styled with zero effort. With the wide-legged Horton pants in camel, Koio sneakers, and gold Claressa hoops, you’ll be power-casual perfection.
Ice Cream Inspiration
This probably has something to do with the fact that it’s almost lunchtime right now, but this lovely summer ensemble is giving me major Neapolitan ice cream vibes (could vanilla + matcha + blueberry be the new vanilla + strawberry + chocolate?). But in all seriousness, the Neapolitan ice cream palette is actually a pretty perfect template for outfit pairing. One light neutral (vanilla) + one dark neutral (chocolate) + one pop of color (strawberry) = a deliciously chic outfit. Here, the Anna jacket in ink and Caitlin shorts in tusk provide a lovely neutral backdrop for the summer-ready Paige T-shirt in dark cactus. Bonus: The whole outfit is machine-washable, so you can attack your actual ice cream sundae with abandon.
