Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Our Favorite Travel-Friendly Pieces for the Holiday Season
December 07, 2018 | Filed in: Your Closet
For most of us, December means travel (and lots of it). Whether you’re hitting the pavement, braving the airport, or chugging along on Amtrak, we rounded up our favorite stylish, comfortable travel clothes to take you from desk to destination.
1. The Red-Eye Flight
The Angelou shawl
There’s no better travel layer than the buttery-soft Angelou shawl, which drapes beautifully no matter how you style it. Most importantly, it doubles as a blanket—ideal for chilly airplane cabins.
The Silk Sleep Mask
A true road warrior’s travel ensemble is incomplete without a sleep mask. Pull it on when you need some shut-eye (or to trick a chatty seatmate into thinking you’re asleep).
2. The Cross-Country Road Trip
The Foster pant
If reaching your destination requires cramming into a car or bus, pants that look polished but have sufficient stretch for curling into various napping positions are a must. The Foster pant’s adjustable hem also means they can be worn cropped or at full length while you’re traveling—it’s like getting two pairs in one.
The Spencer tunic
Three reasons the Spencer is a travel MVP: the ultra-warm cashmere, the longer hem for additional coverage, and the easy fit. Wear it with the slim-fitting Foster pants, and voilà: your Uber ride just became decidedly more glamorous.
3. The Long-Haul Train Ride
The Shirley dress
Catching the Amtrak right after your 5 P.M. meeting? The Shirley dress has a tailored, bulk-free silhouette that will transition seamlessly from the office to the rails. Bonus: The dress is machine-washable, in case you happen to spill your in-transit snack (we’ve been there).
The Daphne sweater
This light-as-a-feather cashmere sweater can be rolled up and tucked into your handbag while you’re en route to the train, then worn as a cozy layer once you get moving.
The Biltmore earrings
Nothing takes an outfit from Penn Station to a party better than adding sparkly earrings—no mirror required.
