Spring Preview: Chic Stripes, Clean Drape, and a Showstopping Bouclé Pantsuit

March 10, 2017 | Filed in: Your Closet

Prepare your closets: The second part of our spring collection, The Fine Line, will breeze its way onto the internet next Tuesday. Are you a fan of dapper stripes, graceful draping, and sleek, stretchy knits? Do you want to look like Olivia Pope crossed with a Hitchcock heroine and a Brancusi sculpture? Well, then you’re in for a treat.

Preview the clothes and read about MM Creative Director Miyako Nakamura’s vision for the season, below.

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED PINSTRIPES. It can be a very masculine textile, often used in men’s suiting, but I like it for very feminine pieces. Two of this season’s striped items, the Alex 2.0 dress and the Bowery skirt, have a beautiful twist detail that’s distinct and sculptural. The stripes accentuate the curves of both garments.

THE DIAGONAL STRIPE has a slimming effect. When lines are angled across the body, rather than straight or sideways, it creates an interesting visual; it’s modern and slightly unexpected, even though the stripe itself is classic.

OUR MATCHING PONTE SETS were born from the idea of creating separates with a clean, streamlined look. These top-and-bottom pairings have the same effect as a simple, gorgeous dress. Women can turn to these pieces as a core part of their wardrobe: easy, comfortable outfits that always feel polished.

OUR INCREDIBLE BOUCLÉ SUITING is one of this season’s showstoppers. It’s made from an innovative, double-bond knit that looks solid and traditional, but it really stretches. The texture is amazing, and the pieces are quite structured both in cut and material. The jacket has sharp, angled seams that look powerful and define the waist.

OUR NEW CHECKER PRINT has a very strong, color-block quality, but there’s also a softness to it. The shapes are actually composed of tiny squares—dots, really—that are combinations of different colors. It’s graphic, but also subtle, and I love that we’ve broken up these geometric lines with draping.
