5 Women on Their Go-to Power Dresses

August 23, 2017 | Filed in: Your Closet

We all need one (or five) power dresses we can grab in a pinch: the reliable staples that not only fit well, but make us feel unstoppable—our wardrobe MVPs, if you will. Here, five MM employees share their go-to dresses, and where they wear them.

Zuzana, Finance Controller: The Catherine 2.0 Dress

Why it’s my go-to: The Catherine 2.0 is the power suit reincarnated in dress form: I put it on and feel ready for anything. The belted waist makes for a flattering silhouette, and I love that the built-in camisole means I don’t have to worry about wearing an underpinning. This dress is form-fitting but not tight—I’m always pleasantly surprised at how comfortable such a tailored piece can be.

Where I wear it: When I want to feel on top of my game but don’t have the time or mental bandwidth to put together a new outfit. It’s a one-and-done piece—just put on a great pair of shoes, and you’re good to go.

Stepheny, Accounting Associate: The Aditi 2.0 Dress

Why it’s my go-to: I love the Aditi 2.0 because it doesn’t feel like a work dress—it’s incredibly comfortable, and works for any and every occasion. The slight V at the neck frames my face nicely, and thanks to the tailored silhouette, there’s no need to tug or readjust anything when you move.

Where I wear it: To work, but I’d be just as comfortable wearing it to a wedding or a cocktail party. This is the kind of dress you can wear straight from a business meeting to celebratory drinks.

Makenna, Stylist: The Casey Dress

Why it’s my go-to: I love this dress because it’s comfortable, professional, and feels like a lightweight blanket that’s designed to flatter my body. The silhouette is great for me because I’m pear-shaped, so it shows my small waist; it makes me feel sexy, but not too showy. Although my curves are very accentuated, the long sleeves and neckline are quite modest.

Where I wear it: I wore it to our last company party! I paired it with gray velvet heels, and it kept me comfortable dancing all night long. It works for any cocktail party or function, and I also wear it on business-casual days at work.

Yan, Graphic Designer: The Taylor Dress

Why it’s my go-to: In a word, this dress is “elegant.” I love the artistic knot detail, and how it creates an elevated waistline that makes me look taller. I’m pear-shaped and have a long torso, and the subtle A-line creates a flattering silhouette. The fabric is breathable and stretchy, and the pockets are surprisingly roomy.

Where I wear it: On more formal days at work, but it’s also great for cocktail parties and dates with my boyfriend.

Hannah, Engineer: The Tory 4.0 Dress

Hannah wears the Tory 4.0 dress in black.

Why it’s my go-to: The Tory was one of the first MM pieces I bought, and it’s still one of the most-worn items in my closet. I tend to prefer outfits that are loose on top and fitted on the bottom, and I love that I was able to find that silhouette in a dress. Also, it’s machine washable!

Where I wear it: The Tory 4.0 is the perfect day-to-night dress. It tiptoes on the border of work and play, and I try to wear it on days when I have post-work plans—I love that I can wear it straight from the office to dinner or drinks and not feel like I’m in work clothes.
