5 Outfits That Feel Like Buying Yourself Flowers

You don’t need a special occasion to feel like a dozen roses.

By Caitlin Abber

More often than not, buying yourself flowers makes everything better. Had a bad day at work? Swing by the bodega and pick up a $9 bouquet. Want to make your kitchen 70% more Nancy Meyer-esque? Pull out a vase, and stuff that thing with as many peonies as you can afford. Got a first date, but it’s over Zoom? Treat yourself to a spray of roses. As adult women, I hope we can all agree that this type of indulgence is sometimes necessary—a quick way to take care of ourselves when the world is doing the opposite.

Certain clothes work the same way, too. They perk us up, make us feel pretty, and add a pop of color to otherwise drab days. Below are five outfits that feature some of our newest, loveliest colors, and have the same energy as a bouquet of “just because” flowers.

If you’re in the mood for anemones…

This is an outfit fit for a trip to the farmer’s market. The light blue of the always-on-point Colby joggers pops when sandwiched between the classic cream of the Lagarde shirt and the subtle gray of the Rowan flat. All this look needs is a timeless tote—and maybe a whimsical hat—and you’ve got a perfect Sunday.

If you’re in the mood for classic roses…

The Celeste top in rosewater is machine-washable, wrinkle-resistant, and the perfect shade of pink. I especially love it in a tonal look, paired with the Melrose skirt in garnet and the Zelda boots in burgundy. Remember what I said about a first date over Zoom? This is the outfit that will get you that second date, for sure.

If you’re in the mood for white ranunculus…

There’s something just so soothing about white-on-white-on-white. It’s like that first hour when you’re done cleaning your whole house, and you get to sit and enjoy it before someone puts that first dirty dish in the sink. Sometimes when I don’t have time to clean, I just get a bushel of ranunculus and stick them on the counter, and it almost has the same effect. Pro tip: The oh-so-soft cashmere Keely joggers in cream, paired with the Leslie T-shirt in ivory and the Koio sneakers to match, have been known to evoke a similar feeling.

If you’re in the mood for cherry blossoms…

It’s never too early to start fantasizing about spring and all the nice outdoor activities we can start doing when the weather is a little warmer. For me, it will be long walks in the park. I’m looking forward to seeing all sorts of flowers blooming, but especially the cherry blossoms. Cherry blossom season is still a ways away though, so for now, I’ll dress the part while running errands in the Peggy top in rosewater, paired with the Rowley skirt in a creamy cotton boucle. Since it’s still chilly, I’ll also grab the cashmere Judith hoodie on my way out the door.

If you're in the mood for baby blue eucalyptus…

Eucalyptus has become one of my go-to flora. I can throw some in my Whole Foods cart or even order bushels of it from Etsy. I love the height it brings to an arrangement but also enjoy hanging it in my shower for a spa-like experience. Plus, the color is somehow neutral without being boring. If I want to bring a similar freshness to my day, I pair the Samara sweater in sea salt with the Wesley Lounger in dusky blue. The color pairing is subtle, but gives height and dimension to a slightly oversized look. For a tiny pop of color, I like to wear the Rowan flat in rose, because, as I’ve said before, why not?
