An Introduction to Omakase

October 20, 2019 | Filed in: Omakase Diary

Ever since we started planning the next phase of Bento, we’ve been thinking a lot about how much time women spend getting dressed for work every morning. Some surveys have shown it’s around 15 days (15 days!) more per year than men spend. Can you believe that? Actually, I’m sure you can. According to a recent poll we ran on Instagram, over 99% of you said you wished getting dressed in the morning was easier.

The Twyla top, the Mejia pant, the Lillian pump, and the Williamina earrings.

That’s why I’m so excited to announce our new experience, which we’ve named “Omakase,” pronounced /oh-mah-kah-say/. In Japan, where my co-founder and I grew up, Omakase is a noun that means “respectfully allowing another to decide what is best”—which is why it’s the perfect name for our new capsule wardrobes. We invite you to leave your outfit decisions to us.

When we offered Bento, we were able to help select individual items for you, but we never achieved our goal of truly styling you head-to-toe. With Omakase, we’re fixing that by showing you outfit suggestions so that you can see different ways of styling the pieces. The items are designed to go together no matter which combination you wear—buy one piece or buy them all, and mix and match to your heart’s content. Think of it as Garanimals for adults! Ultimately, our goal is to give back some of those precious 15 days to you.

We’re kicking off Omakase with four distinct capsules—The Disruptor, The Multitasker, The Frequent Flyer, and The Power Player. This week, I even took the Power Player Omakase for a spin myself.

So what are you waiting for? Make your mornings easier with an Omakase, and start reclaiming those 15 days a year.
