How to Dress Like New York Liberty Head Coach Sandy Brondello
Five movement-friendly looks that stay polished on and off the court.
From our collective obsession with Challengers to the impending Paris Olympics, sports are everywhere right now. Even those of us who haven’t always been athletically inclined want a front-row seat. I haven’t historically been a big sports fan, but ever since M.M. partnered with WNBA team the New York Liberty last year, I’ve been hooked.
Watching the New York Liberty compete on the court this season has been inspiring and thrilling. The team currently sit on top of the WNBA standings after winning 21 of 25 games and while some of the best players in the league compete at the highest level each night on the court, Liberty Head Coach Sandy Brondello can be seen on the sidelines, constantly moving as she coaches top-caliber talent to victory.
Although she doesn’t sport a Liberty jersey, Coach Brondello is just as vital to this team’s success, and some might say that that she has her own game-day outfit formula down to a science. Below, we share tips on how to recreate our favorite WNBA Head Coach’s best game-day looks, including a few pieces from our capsule collection created as part of our multi-year partnership with the Liberty. Many of these pieces were inspired by the team and everything they stand for: team spirit, women’s empowerment, and a love for New York City (check out the full collection here).

Outfit 1
The Ode to NYC
We designed borough print—based on vintage maps of our founding city, NYC—in collaboration with the Liberty. Thanks to their black-and-white palette, the Annika tee and Zhou culottes are easy to pair with anything, but we especially love them worn together as a set. These swishy silk separates are not only elegant and comfortable—they’re also machine washable, in case you break a sweat on (or off) the court.
Outfit 2
The Jetsetter’s Set
Our Everyday Crepe pieces are made for travel, but ideal for pretty much anything. We love how Coach Sandy added texture to her ensemble by pairing the Nicky jacket and Elena culottes with the knit Giada top. Contrast stitching adds interest to the outfit without being distracting.
Outfit 3
The Better Than Denim Suit
It’s the fun, fresh look of a crisp white suit—but with a sporty twist. To get Coach Sandy’s look, wear the matching Rhoda jacket and Milo jeans in Better Than Denim (which has the structure of denim, but with more stretch and polish), plus the Leslie T-shirt. The Everly belt and silver Claressa hoops tie the outfit together.
Outfit 4
The Summer Suit
Coach Sandy could easily go from the basketball court to the boardroom in this outfit. Want to look similarly put-together without overheating? Cotton tweed is the answer. Breathable, wrinkle-resistant, and stain-concealing, the Janette jacket and Pearl pants are your shortcut to looking polished in seconds. Pair them with a sleek knit pullover, sneakers, and hoop earrings.
Outfit 5
The Pseudo-Suit
If you like the powerful look of suiting but want a slightly more casual vibe, try a pseudo-suit: A jacket and pants that are the same color, but made from different fabrics. The wool-twill Yiyan blazer keeps things professional, while the Milo jeans and Leslie T-shirt add ease to the ensemble. To achieve a slightly oversized look similar to Coach Sandy’s, we recommend going up one size in the Yiyan.
