MM Gives Back: Advancing Women in the Workplace and Beyond

November 08, 2017 | Filed in: Humans of MM

At MM.LaFleur, we’re focused on helping women succeed—in work and in life. One way that we try to have an impact is by partnering with charitable organizations dedicated to helping women in the workplace and beyond. And so, as we near the end of the year, we wanted to highlight the incredible work being done by our nonprofit partners. Read on to learn more.

Bottomless Closet

For the next month, we will donate gently worn MM garments to Bottomless Closet, a nonprofit that helps give disadvantaged New York City women tools they need to enter the workforce and achieve success. Bottomless Closet provides its clients with interview and career-appropriate attire, one-to-one resume reviews, interview coaching, and a broad workshop curriculum that promotes professional development, financial management, and personal enrichment. Each year, the organization distributes thousands of garments to women in need—including thousands donated by MM.

From November 15 – December 15, MM customers are invited to bring their gently-used garments into our showrooms, and will receive a $10 credit for each donated item to use towards their next MM purchase (in showrooms and pop-ups only). Vouchers will be valid through 3/31/18. Click here to book an appointment.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC)

For the past several years, we have been a proud partner of the International Rescue Committee, an organization that offers emergency aid and long-term assistance to some of the world’s most vulnerable people, with the ultimate goal of helping them rebuild lives and restore dignity. In 2016, the IRC’s programs in the United States helped resettle over 13,000 newly arrived refugees in the U.S.—including several whom we have added to the team at MM.LaFleur. Last year, we sponsored IRC’s “The Vision Project” initiative, which helps adolescent refugee girls envision their future careers and explore professional opportunities.

The New York Women’s Foundation

Through our partnership with The New York Women’s Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping women and girls achieve economic stability and justice, we offer to dress their honorees and grantee partners for all Foundation-sponsored events and galas. Since 1986, NYWF has worked tirelessly to aid New Yorkers in everything from post-9/11 recovery, to financial support through the Great Recession, to aiding those living in areas hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy. We also interviewed Ana Oliveira, NYWF’s president and CEO, for our Most Remarkable Women series.

She Should Run

She Should Run is a non-partisan organization dedicated to increasing the talent pool of elected female leaders. The organization is committed to getting 250,000 women to run for office by 2030, with the goal of closing the gender representation gap in elected offices. We’ve collected donations for She Should Run at events in our D.C. showroom, and this year, we’re sponsoring their annual event. We also sell their picture book, See Joan Run—a whimsical take on the classic “Dick and Jane” series—which follows Joan as she runs for office, confronts a world full of Dicks, and comes out on top.

MM.LaFleur’s Most Remarkable Women series

This year, we’ve asked the most fascinating women we know to share their career stories: their toughest and proudest moments, and everything in between. For every woman we feature, we donate $500 to a charity of her choice.
