1 Dress, 3 Ways: Michaella’s #Mmazing Style
January 10, 2014
The best thing about an MM.LaFleur dress? You can wear it week-long and year-round, dressed up or toned down. First up in our #Mmazing style series (don’t forget to check out our Instagram contest!) is Michaella Kurdziel, MM’s Director of Customer Experience, who effortlessly rocks The Karen from day to night, uptown to downtown. Here’s how she does it.
So Michaella. Why do you love the Karen?
“The double-knit jersey material is unbelievably comfortable. And because it’s such a thick, sturdy material, it always looks super polished. I also love that the shape of the dress is so classic—the longer sleeve, the V-neck. I love the slit details in the skirt and arms, and you can’t go wrong with black—it’s such an easy color to play with.”
1. At Work
Taking care of business.
“This is pretty typical of what I wore when I worked in financial services. Here, I paired the Karen with sheer black tights, gray leopard-print pumps from Banana Republic, and a silk scarf. And when I’m at work, I like to put my hair up in a bun to keep myself from twirling it all the time.
For makeup, I use MAC Eyeshadow in Bark as a liner, and I just brush it into the lash line. It’s a little bit softer than a liner-liner. I’ve been using it for years because it lasts forever. The guy who sold it to me in high school probably had no idea he was giving me my eyeliner for life.”
2. For Date Night
Do you come here often?
“The Karen is totally perfect for a great dinner out. I wear it with sheer black tights, and then these crazy metallic shoes from Zara that add a little bit of pop. My chain-metal necklace from Calypso works well with the V-neck.
One of my favorite date places is Café Luxembourg on the Upper West Side. They have this zinc bar that’s probably 25-feet long, and I just think it’s one of the coolest bars in Manhattan. It’s usually all the old farts and the two of us, but last year on Valentine’s Day, we ended up sitting next to Bill Heder from SNL.”

3. On the Weekend
Lazy Sunday at Press Tea.
“I’m a big creature of comfort on the weekend, and I just love the Morandi sweater. It’s so chunky and soft and cozy. I felt like I was wearing pajamas in this outfit, but given the material of the dress, I actually managed to look pretty polished and pulled together. That’s usually my goal for the weekend when I’m running around, doing errands, and seeing friends.”
“Here, I paired the dress with my camel-colored leather tote and brown knee-high boots, which are both from Cole Haan. I know mixing black and brown is supposedly a faux pas, but I actually kind of like it. When you mix browns with something classic like black, I think it works.”
