Seven Machine-Washable Pieces, Seven Easy Summer Outfits

Fresh styling inspiration for summer: the time of year when sweat is inevitable and machine-washability is necessary.

By Madeleine Kim

At this point in my life, I have very little tolerance for dry cleaning. I’ll make exceptions for truly special pieces, like an intricately embroidered top or a meticulously constructed blazer—but for my everyday wardrobe, prioritizing machine-washable styles just makes sense.

With the release of our new June drop, we’ve introduced fresh machine-washable pieces both classic (like an embroidered version of our Leslie T-shirt) and unexpected (like a 100%-silk special-occasion dress). Here are seven easy-care summer styles to try—and seven different outfit combinations you can make with them.

Seven Machine-Washable Pieces

Seven Machine-Washable Summer Outfits

1. The A-line cut of the DiemMy dress is playful, but the asymmetrical hemline keeps it from feeling too cutesy. Plus, how gorgeous is this new sketchbook floral print?

2. By popular demand, we made our Leslie T-shirt in true white! And this one is extra special, because it has the M.M. icon embroidered on the chest.

3. The Mejia pants are classic straight-leg trousers with just the right rise (not low-rise, but not too high-rise, either). Washable wool twill creates a super polished appearance, which is exactly what you want when you’re wearing trousers.

4. The Vicky is everything you want in a silk tank: It’s elegant, eye-catching, and easy to wear either tucked or untucked. Plus, our guava color is surprisingly versatile and goes with warm and cool neutrals alike.

5. What can’t the Orchard skirt do? We styled this piece with cashmere sweaters all fall and winter, and now, we’re pairing it with T-shirts and silk tanks. I especially love the Sahara print, because the texture helps disguise the inevitable bumps that occur when you tuck something into a silk skirt.

6. Do you know how rare a machine-washable blazer is? Very. But that’s not the only reason we love the Emalis jacket—it’s also super stretchy and has ¾-length sleeves for a more casual look.

7. Fun fact: The top half of our new Priya dress features the same cut as our best-selling top, the Nora. And like the Nora top, it’s machine-washable, odor-resistant, wrinkle-resistant, and responsibly produced.

Seven Easy Summer Outfits

1. The Day-to-Night Outfit

I couldn’t decide if this felt more like a special-occasion outfit or a work outfit, and then I realized: it’s both. And that’s Power Casual, baby! I love the contrast of the warm-hued Emalis jacket and the cool-colored Priya dress. Two-toned accessories like the Rowan flats and Yuna earrings help bridge the color-palette gap and make the look cohesive.

2. The Wedding-Guest Outfit

Of course, I also had to show you just how festive the Priya dress can get with the right accessories. If you’re attending any weddings this summer, you should definitely give this one a try.

3. The Day-Trip Outfit

Try treating Sahara print like a neutral to introduce texture without your outfit feeling too loud. This look is comfortable (and breathable) enough for walking around all day, but chic enough that you’ll be excited to pose for the group photo.

4. The Silk-Sundress Outfit

While the DiemMy dress doesn’t need any styling to turn heads, coordinating flats and earrings really make it shine.

5. The Column Outfit

An easy outfit formula: Start with an all-black base, like the Vicky tank and Mejia pants, then add a contrasting layer like the Emalis jacket. The resulting look is professional, but not quite as formal as a suit.

6. The Go-to Weekend Outfit

One easy way to elevate a typical weekend look is to swap your jeans for a pair of chic trousers. When paired with a T-shirt and slides, the Mejia pants take on a more casual (but still totally polished) vibe).

7. The Creative-Office Outfit

This feels like an outfit your cool art teacher would wear, and I mean that in a very good way. It’s interesting and expressive—but also cohesive and put-together, so it would look completely at-home in a creative office environment.
