6 Layers for Air Conditioning Season
June 09, 2017 | Filed in: Your Closet
Just as you start enjoying summer’s long days, outdoor restaurant seating, and rosé, it begins: the relentless, bone-chilling blast of office air conditioning. We’ve preached our love for the “desk sweater” before, and there’s no better time to invest in a work-appropriate layer that can spend its off-hours on the back of your chair (no need to stuff it in your handbag when you prance off into the balmy evening… or your sweaty commute). Here are six of our most beloved warm-weather layers, reporting for duty.
The Lange cardigan

The Lange cardigan in goldenrod.
If the word “cardigan” calls to mind a sad, shapeless hand-me-down of questionable origins, allow yourself to be won over by the Lange. With a sleek, mini-cable stitch pattern and cropped length, the Lange is modern, fitted, and holds its shape. It works best worn with a sleeveless dress or top, and the deep v-neck shows off the layer underneath.
The Dietrich jacket

The Dietrich jacket in birch.
Want a layer that will make a statement? Opt for the polished, tuxedo-inspired Dietrich in our plein air fabric, which has the look and feel of linen but stays crisp all day.
The Sant Ambroeus jardigan

The Sant Ambroeus jardigan in galaxy blue.
Our hybrid jacket-cardigan has earned its place in the MM Hall of Whatever-Did-I-Wear-Before-This-Came-Along. A chic, comfortable alternative to a stiff blazer, the Sant Ambroeus has a slightly cropped length and works equally well with dresses and separates.
The Woolf jardigan

The Woolf jardigan in black.
Keep the Woolf nearby if you prefer additional coverage: It’s longer than the Sant Ambroeus, and has full-length sleeves. You’ll fool everyone into thinking you’re wearing a standard blazer, and only you will be the wiser (and comfier).
The Billie cardigan

The Billie cardigan in champagne.
Our most summery cardigan, the Billie is light, slim-fitting, and never bulky. With slightly cropped sleeves and delicate hook-and-eye closures, it pairs nicely with sundresses and tank tops.
The Albright jacket

The Albright jacket in chevron weave.
The quickest way to take your office ensemble to the next level? With the sharp Albright jacket, cut from a structured jacquard. It holds its own beautifully, but if you want a full suit, pair it with the matching Morningside skirt.
