On the Move: Where to Wear Our Spring Fabrics

February 08, 2019 | Filed in: Your Closet

Ah, spring! Perhaps the most disappointing season, in that what we want (sunshine, tulips, warmer days) doesn’t always match up with what we get (rain, cold snaps, MORE SNOW). However, it is the perfect setting for the debut of our latest innovation in workwear: “For The Win,” our first-ever ath-suitable collection (coming soon—keep an eye on your inbox!). What does ath-suitable mean, you might ask? Think of it as the professional woman’s answer to athleisure. What this collection brings to the table is the same level of comfort and movement but with a more tailored, work-appropriate style. Read on to learn more about the fabrics making it possible—and where to wear them.

Tech Wool

waterproof parka

The Mercer parka, the Chen parka, (coming soon!), the Shaw pant, and the Lana boot.

All the umbrellas in the world don’t make one bit of difference if your outerwear isn’t properly waterproofed. The only problem is that most raincoats are designed to complement more casual, athletic clothing. Enter the Mercer parka and the Osborn trench—luxury silhouettes that offer full protection from the elements.

Says our design team: “This is not your classic trenchcoat fabric. Our tech wool is an elegant wool nylon blend that is water resistant and thermoregulating, giving it all the function it needs to take on your toughest commute.”

Where to wear it: Dreary commutes, travel days.

Scuba

scuba dress

The Greenlay dress in scuba (coming soon!).

The downside of stretch can be bagginess, or simpler, less architectural design. With our new scuba fabric, there’s no need to choose. It offers maximum movement and comfort, without sacrificing sharp tailoring and a flattering fit.

Says our design team: “When you see this fabric on the body, it looks sharp, clean, and professional—and when you wear it, you feel like you could work out in it.”

Where to wear it: Back-to-back meetings, interviews (after all, you can’t be confident if you’re uncomfortable).

Pleated Jersey

plisse dress

The Noel dress (coming soon!) and the Ginger pump.

Being comfortable doesn’t have to mean looking plain, a point that our new pleated jersey proves again and again. It’s appealingly swishy while the crinkly texture adds visual interest and moves with you throughout the day.

Says our design team: “As designers, we’re inspired by pleats and folds, but sometimes a traditionally-pleated garment can be a little fussy for everyday wear. We’re excited about this fabric because it has a pleated design on the surface and offers all the comfort and functionality of an easy knit piece.”

Where to wear it: A day when you have something fun planned after work, a gloomy Monday when you need a pick-me-up.

Soft Wave

soft wave top

The Joan top (coming soon!), the Clooney pant, and the Grace loafer.

If only you could get ready for work and then teleport to the office, arriving as un-mussed and put-together as you were when you left. Life, of course, has other plans: a subway car with no air-conditioning, an impromptu Citibike ride because there are no cabs, nine flights of stairs to climb because the elevator’s on the fritz. Our soft wave fabric is odor-resistant, allowing you to focus on what’s really important—your work.

Says our design team: “We’ve upgraded our soft wave fabrication to withstand the hustle and bustle of daily life. This fabric was already a workhorse (machine-washable, wrinkle-resistant, and travel-friendly), and we’ve added an anti-odor finish called Polygiene. Now you can wear your favorite MM pieces more and wash them less.

Where to wear it: A day when you know you’ll blow through 15,000 steps on your Fitbit.
