On Duty/Off Duty, Winter Edition: Part 3

March 01, 2019 | Filed in: Your Closet

For the last installment of the winter edition of our On Duty/Off Duty series, MM senior stylist Nyjerah styles two looks for our team member Keiko. “Keiko’s style is edgy—she’s not afraid to push the limits,” says Nyjerah. “I put her in a classic black blazer to show how it can be styled as business formal for the office and relaxed for the weekend.” Read on to see how Keiko wears our Collins blazer two ways.

On Duty

Keiko wears the Collins blazer, the Lise top, the Costello pant, and the Lana boot.

“For this outfit, I wanted to create an elevated, business-formal look that has subtle, fashion-forward elements. I paired the Collins blazer with the Costello pant in sharkskin, which reads as a neutral but adds a pop of color so that the look isn’t full-on black and white. These pants have a good amount of volume, and they beautifully balance the tailored silhouette of the blazer, which is designed to highlight the waist. Since the pants are slightly cropped, they show off the gorgeous shape of our Lana boot.”

“I also wanted to show that you shouldn’t be afraid to wear ‘unique’ underpinnings with traditional blazers. The classic formula is to layer a blazer over a V-neck, but here, I styled Keiko in our Lise top which has an elegant mock neck. The lapels of the blazer frame the elegant drape of the collar of the top, adding dimension to the ensemble. My goal was to show that there are no ‘rules’ when it comes to necklines.”

Off Duty

Keiko wears the Collins blazer and the Lana boot with her own black tee and jeans.

“For Keiko’s ‘Off Duty’ look, I wanted to show how versatile a black blazer can be—here, it’s styled much more casually than her first outfit. I paired it with a graphic tee and black jeans, my favorite weekend uniform. This outfit transitions easily from day to night: You can wear it during the day while running errands, then straight to a night out with your friends.”

“I cuffed the jeans to highlight the details of the Lana boot and to give the look a little more edge. These jeans are slim-fitting and balance the structured silhouette of the blazer. In Keiko’s ‘On Duty’ look, every component of the outfit was equally emphasized, but here, the focus is really on the blazer. The all-black color palette works for any dress code and can be dressed up or down, and the writing on the tee adds subtle visual interest.”
