23 Styles You Own in Multiples

Meet the pieces our customers would buy in every color of the rainbow.

By Emma Steinbergs

We all have those pieces we love so much and wear so often that we stock up on them in several colors. My personal M.M. multiples include the Arbus sweater, the O’Hara blazer, the Milo jean, and pretty much all of our T-shirts. On occasion, I’ve even doubled up on certain styles in the same color—just in case they’re tragically discontinued in the distant future.

It’s not every day that you come across an I-can’t-live-without-this item, so I turned to our customer Slack space in order to gather some additional honest, insightful recommendations. After posting a quick prompt last week, I immediately received an influx of love letters to over 20 styles. Scroll to see which pieces are the Lay’s potato chips of M.M. Betcha can’t eat buy just one!

The Woolf Jardigan, the Merritt Jardigan, and the Harlem Jardigan

“Together, they form some of my favorite suits.”

Our jardigan knits combine the structure of a jacket with the comfort of a cardigan, so it’s no wonder they’re some of your favorite styles. “I own the Woolf jardigan, the Merritt jardigan, and the Harlem skirt in multiple colors (black, navy, and latte),” says one longtime customer, Alyssa. “Each item has incredible versatility, and together, they form some of my favorite suits. I also frequently pair my Woolfs and Merritts with jeans for casual days at home.”

Another customer, Katie, shouted out the Merritt, too: “I have the Merritt jardigan in four colors. It’s a great office layer, can dress up a pair of pants, doesn’t wrinkle, and covers my bum!”

Pima Cotton T-Shirts

“Do I count my 50(?!) different M.M.LaFleur T-shirts? I adore all the styles!”

Buttery soft and perfectly cut, our pima cotton tees will quickly become part of your regular rotation. In other words, they’re exactly the type of item you want to stock up on in every color—which is exactly what our customer Pamela did. “Oh my goodness, multiples?” she says. “Where to start? Do I count my 50(?!) different M.M.LaFleur T-shirts? Some were bought brand new and some off Second Act. I adore all the styles! Alina and Paige during the summer; Leslie and Soyoung in the fall and spring; and come winter, I’m stocked up on nearly every color of the Axam to layer under my four O’Hara blazers.”

Another customer, Amy, also favors the sleeveless Alina and turtleneck Axam, saying, “I have a total Steve Jobs approach to dressing during the week, when I need to look polished and elevated but feel comfortable. An Alina or Axam paired with my Colby pants is the go-to combo I probably wear 75% of the time.”

The Moreland Jacket and the Colby Pant

“They’re perfect for the days when I want to wear sweats but still need to look pulled together.”

Speaking of the Colby pants, these pull-on trousers are a must-have for travel—or days when you crave pajama-like comfort. As Yvonne, one of our passionate Colby fans, reports, “I have them in olive, gray, and duplicate pairs of black. One of the black pairs belongs with my black Moreland, serving as my travel suit. The other pair is for everyday wear. They’re perfect for the days when I want to wear sweats but still need to look pulled together. I love their versatility, the pockets, and all the travel-friendly benefits of OrigamiTech.”

While you’re stocking up on the Colby pants, be sure to take Yvonne’s advice and complete your suit with the Moreland jacket. “I’m bordering on having a full-fledged Moreland addiction,” confesses another customer, Michelle. “I have it in three colors, and I’ve been eyeing wine as well. I travel frequently for work, and it’s just all too easy to build a whole week’s worth of outfits around a Moreland!”

The Leo Pullover

The Leo Pullover

“I would wear the $#%! out of navy. I’d probably need two.”

In the words of our customer Moira, “Owning the Leo pullover reminds me of the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: If you give a customer a Leo pullover, she’ll want another to go with it. She’ll realize how perfect it is and will then want it in every color. She’ll wear it a lot and spill something on it. She’ll have to wash it to get the stain out. As she’s washing it, she’ll realize how often she wears it. And when that happens, she’ll want another to go with it.” She also says, “It’s such a comfortable, easy shirt with a weight that’s light but comforting. I love the collar, V-neck, and waistband details, which work together to ensure it looks tidy even when untucked. My only problem with it is that I need a navy one! Seriously—I would wear the $#%! out of navy. I’d probably need two.”

The Zhou Culotte

“I own the Zhous in six different colors, because every single time I wear them, I get compliments.”

Culottes are among the most powerful clothing items in your closet—their wide legs providing an incredibly forgiving feel and a singularly elegant look. Our customer Jodi calls them “the most amazing pants ever,” and says, “They feel like wearing a swishy, long skirt but for pants people.” Another customer, Claire, echoes this enthusiasm: “I own the Zhous in six different colors because every single time I wear them, I get compliments. They’re also incredibly comfortable and can be dressed up or down.”

Eco Soft Wave Tops

Eco Soft Wave Tops

“I had a server drop dirty dishes on my back while wearing one of my Lagardes, and thankfully, the gunk washed right out!”

Lightweight, machine-washable, wrinkle-resistant, and odor-resistant, our Eco Soft Wave tops are the ultimate underpinnings to wear along with your favorite blazers. They also stand alone as beautiful blouses you can wear to work, on the weekend, and anywhere in between. “The Nora top is the perfect blouse—for anything,” says Jodi. “It lies well, doesn’t wrinkle, and is always ready for whatever my day has in store for me.”

Meanwhile, another customer, Alice, is a die-hard Lagarde fan. “I have the Lagarde shirt in almost every color,” she says. “I love how the fabric feels and how easy it is to care for. I had a server drop dirty dishes on my back while wearing one of my Lagardes, and thankfully, the gunk washed right out! I particularly like the gold button at the neck. It’s a tiny detail, but something that feels extra special. I’ve worn this shirt on its own, as a jacket, layered under a blazer, tucked, untucked, on television, presenting at a conference, on top of a mountain in Switzerland, and in 120-degree weather in Yuma, Arizona.”

The Mejia Pant and the Smith Pant

“Even with my mostly remote work schedule, I still wear these for in-person events.”

Our washable wool twill trousers combine classic tailoring with easy care—all you could ever want from a suiting pant. “I have three pairs of the Mejias, and I love them so much,” says Shruti. “They’re a phenomenal, structured style for the office but have enough stretch to be comfortable all day long. They also make me feel so powerful!”

If you love a straight leg silhouette but prefer a slightly less tapered ankle, the Smith pant might be the one to stock up on instead. “They’re gorgeous, comfortable, and flattering,” says Yvonne. “I have them in black and forest green; galaxy blue one is on my wish list. If I were working in an office, these would be in heavy rotation, but even with my mostly remote work schedule, I still wear these for in-person events that require business casual attire.”

mmlafleur Recycled WonderTex Dresses

Recycled WonderTex Dresses

“I consider the Emily the Swiss Army knife of my closet, because I can wear it for anything.”

Our selection of Recycled WonderTex Dresses includes some of our most time-tested styles. Take the Aditi and Emily, for instance, which launched back in 2013 and remain some of our favorite one-and-done outfits. “I have the Aditi dress in four colors,” says Katie. “I love it, because it can be dressed up or down, it always looks polished, and it’s super comfortable. It also fits well with my long torso and height (no worries about the skirt creeping up!).”

As for the Emily, our customer Melissa, says, “The Emily dress is a superstar for me, I’ve worn it for job interviews, both as the interviewer and the interviewee. I’ve worn it to weddings, funerals, holidays, dinners, and graduations. I’ve worn it with sandals. I’ve worn it with heels. One day, I wore it to ask for a $1 million donation—and I sealed the deal. Another day, I climbed to the top of my office building to inspect the AC with the repair guy, subsequently ate lunch at an Indian buffet, and then had drinks after work. I consider the Emily the Swiss Army knife of my closet, because I can wear it for anything.”

The Hockley Jean

“The stretchy fabric is forgiving, and I can wear them despite my 5-lb. weight fluctuations.”

As our #1 best-selling pant of all time, the Foster is an obvious choice to stock up on, but its more jean-adjacent cousin, the Hockley jean, is well worth owning in a few hues, too. “I have them in black, ink, hemlock, and charcoal,” Yvonne says. “These are my go-to pants that I wear almost every day. They’re like everyone’s beloved Fosters but with pockets and other jean like-detailing, such as a zipper fly. They’re flattering, versatile, machine-washable, durable, adjustable (the hidden hem snaps are genius), and have pockets that carry my big iPhone Pro as well as my keys. The clincher is that the stretchy fabric is forgiving, and I can wear them despite my 5-lb. weight fluctuations.”

The Arbus Sweater and the Theo Sweater

The Arbus Sweater and the Theo Sweater

“The cashmere…the cut…the crop! It’s all perfect.”

Our luxurious cashmere sweaters are an absolute must if you live anywhere that dips below 60 degrees. As I mentioned up top, the Arbus is a personal favorite, but you can take our customer’s word for it, too. “I own five colors of the Arbus sweater,” says Caitlin. It’s my go-to sweater in the cold months here in D.C. The cashmere…the cut…the crop! It’s all perfect.”

While all of our cashmere is non-itchy, our plush cashmere styles, like the Theo sweater, take softness to a whole new level—to the point that they feel like living in a cloud. “I just bought my third color of the Theo pullover,” says Leyla. “I’m now completely ready for fall!
I love this style so much. It’s incredibly soft, so stunningly gorgeous, and has a slightly quirky oversized, off-the-shoulder look. Most importantly, it feels as good as it looks—I love to wear it without a top underneath.”

“Being able to wash them at home is the cherry on top!”

Designed for year-round wear, our 365Knit styles feature a smooth, substantial handfeel that elevates your everyday outfits. Our customer Stephanie can’t get enough of the stuff, saying, “I’m a long-time custoMMer and own multiple multiples, but my most-worn pieces have to be the Choe and Peggy tops. They’re the workhorses of my wardrobe. Being able to wash them at home is the cherry on top, and I’m pleased to say that they still look great after years of washing and wearing on repeat!”
