The Four Cozy Movies You Should Watch This Holiday—and How to Dress Like Them
Cold-weather looks inspired by Notting Hill, The Holiday, and more.
Movie-watching is an inherently cozy activity. Worst case, you’re snuggled up against your airplane neighbor. Best case, you’re horizontal on a cloud-like couch, and if you’re really doing things right, there’s a bag of perfectly buttered popcorn on your lap. Now, bathe the screen in golden foliage or freshly fallen snow, and you’ve got yourself one of the coziest experiences you’ll ever know—plus some stellar seasonal style inspo.
If you find yourself looking for a way to unwind during holiday break, we recommend giving your favorite wintry film a rewatch and keeping your eye out for outfits to emulate. We’ll go first: Below, see four cozy classics and corresponding cold-weather looks we can’t wait to recreate.

Notting Hill
Shop This Look
Even an epic coffee spill can’t spoil Anna Scott’s style in Notting Hill. Played by Julia Roberts, she’s the quintessential ’90s cool girl with a wardrobe full of sleek sweater sets, perfectly fitting jeans, and this enviable leather jacket. You could probably find similar options at your local thrift store, but if you don’t have spare hours to devote to digging, try the Sierra shacket. Its vegan leather has a similar effect, adding effortless edge to anything from your favorite jeans to tailored trousers. To achieve Scott’s look, opt for the flared Horton pants, and tuck in a (preferably clean) white Leslie T-shirt. Platform Vans and tortoiseshell sunglasses complete the outfit. (Bonus points if you go for the beret.)

The Preacher’s Wife
In The Preacher’s Wife, Julia Biggs not only has a spectacular singing voice (she’s played by Whitney Houston) but also wears a parade of outfits that are pitch-perfect for winter in the city. This iconic ice-skating scene features a fantastic layered look you can easily replicate with the date-colored Scotte jacket and the matching Jess dress. Just be sure to wear an Axam turtleneck underneath, and swaddle yourself in your plushest scarf for weather-appropriate warmth. When you’re not on the ice, finish the look with a pair of tall brown boots and textured tights.

The Holiday
After a long-haul flight from LA to England, Amanda Woods (played by Cameron Diaz) arrives in Surrey dressed to the nines, and quickly has to change into loungey items that are more suited to her new countryside setting. Pro tip: If you, too, are going transatlantic, skip the outfit change and commit to items that will keep you cozy throughout your travels. The alpaca-wool (read: not itchy) Lea sweater and the elastic-waist Colby pants are ideal options as they look put-together but feel effortless. Once you’ve arrived at your destination, slip on your lilac beanie and soft slippers before kindling a fire.

When Harry Met Sally
When Harry Met Sally is the oldest movie of this bunch, but boy does hold up sartorially. Sally Albright (played by Meg Ryan) has a particularly impressive collection of tailored blazers and chic knitwear, and they’re just as in vogue today as they were 35 years ago. For your own version of this iconic combo, layer the brown Tyner blazer over a pop of color like the Percy top. Dark-wash jeans and low-heeled boots round out this look, which begs for a visit to your favorite bookstore followed by a long walk in the park.
