The Woman Behind the Dress: Meet Casey
January 06, 2017 | Filed in: Humans of MM
Here at MM.LaFleur, we name our dresses after the brilliant employees who make this company great. And while our team members are incredible, sometimes our products steal the spotlight. Exhibit A: the Casey dress, which was featured on Refinery29, Today, and Racked after it amassed a 1,400-person waitlist. Named after Casey Kunau, stylist extraordinaire, this dress lives up to the hype (the numbers don’t lie). “The press is a testament to our incredible design team,” says Casey, “but it’s always exciting to read about my namesake!”
While the Casey dress looks simple at first glance, the beauty lies in the details: Strategic draping and a wrapped waistline create a silhouette that’s both streamlined and flattering. See for yourself.
How did Casey lay claim to this crowd-pleasing design feat? We’ll let her take it from here.
How did you pick your dress? “When I first started working at MM, I used to sit in on design fittings so that I could better understand the craftsmanship that went into each piece, and properly communicate it back to our customers. I remember this dress went through many, many fittings to get the front wrap just right. When it was finished, the design team was particularly proud and predicted that it would be a knock-out. I couldn’t wait to choose it as my namesake.”
What do you love about your dress? “It’s made from Italian jersey—my favorite fabric! It’s soft, comfortable, and forgiving, but still looks polished. I always wear this dress if I’m flying somewhere after work.”
If you could put one woman in your dress, who would it be? “Natalie Portman. She’s understated and elegant.”
