The Woman Behind the Dress: Meet Alexandra
March 25, 2017 | Filed in: Humans of MM
Here at MM, we name our dresses after our colleagues—the brilliant, hard-working women with whom we spend our working hours (and sometimes even our happy hours, because we like each other that much). Exhibit A: The namesake of our popular Alexandra dress, editorial associate Alex Johnson. One of MM’s very first interns, Alex was hired straight out of college, first as a stylist and now as a member of the editorial team. More fun facts: She’s quick with a good pun, makes a killer chocolate-chip banana bread, and is known for her excellent ’90s mixes (her DJ name: DJAJ).
The Alexandra dress—a sleek, V-neck piece with three-quarter sleeves and an A-line skirt—debuted with great fanfare in early 2016, and quickly took its place among the MM classics. But enough gushing; we’ll let Alex speak for her dress, and herself.

Alex wears the Alexandra 2.0 in black.
What’s your favorite thing about your dress? “The sleeves, because I’m usually chilly. And the shape is great—I don’t have much of a waist, so belted pieces can be hit-or-miss on me. But because this is an A-line style with an accentuated waist, it has nice structure and definition. I like that the silhouette is tailored but not tight.”
What do you and your dress have in common? It’s not the most fashion-forward of our dresses—it’s reliable and timeless, and that’s very much my style. This dress is also up for anything. You could wear it to a work conference and then put on a fancy necklace and go out to a nice dinner.”
