How to Remix 3 M.M. Essentials for Spring

M.M.’s Brand Stylist shows us fresh new ways to wear three of our favorite pieces.

By Madeleine Kim

I’ll be honest: For the past year, I’ve only been wearing about 20% of my wardrobe on a consistent basis. There are those ambitious mornings when I decide to wear a real bra and pants that actually button, but those days have gotten fewer and further between lately (there’s just something about February, you know?).

I’ve really been missing some of my old favorites—those Before-Times staples I used to wear on a near-weekly basis—and frankly, my quarantine rotation could use a refresh. So I asked M.M.’s Brand Stylist, Nyjerah, to help me put together some new outfits using three classic M.M. pieces: the Foster pants, the Rachel dress, and the Giulia top. And because the weather has literally never been more…terrifyingly bizarre, I asked her to create warm- and cool-weather options for each piece. Here are the inventive combinations she came up with that helped get me out of my funk. (By the way, can you tell we had fun playing dress-up?)

The Foster Pants

Stretchy pants paired with a sweatshirt is nothing new, but sticking with an all-ivory palette makes your outfit feel fresh and intentional—even better if you add big earrings for a bit of shine. I hadn’t thought of pairing the fine terry Harris sweatshirt in pearl with the Foster pants in bone, but now that I’ve seen how good these pieces look together, I can’t unsee it (not that I’d want to). When it gets warmer (soon? please?), I’ll swap the sweatshirt for the Marcia T-shirt in camel, which is made of gorgeous Pima cotton that’s somehow lightweight when it’s hot and insulating when it’s cold. The sculptural Mardy earrings are a fun addition, but the thing that really “makes” this outfit is the bold Beebe belt.

The Rachel Dress

The Rachel dress is a well-documented day-to-night MVP, but I hadn’t broken mine out during quarantine—until now. Pairing it with the gorgeous new Lilia jacket and Celia earrings renewed my love for wearing dresses—and just got me excited about dressing up again, period. To give this outfit that extra something different, Nyjerah had me wear the Leslie T-shirt under my dress—also a great option for when you want a little more coverage. For my springtime look, I’m sticking with eye-catching blazers, which just feels right. The Gaia jacket is a statement piece that won’t go out of style, while the Reid belt gives the outfit a bit of edge.

The Giulia Top

I honestly don’t know why I haven’t worn my Giulia top during quarantine. I mean, it’s comfortable, machine-washable, and goes with pretty much all of my sweatpants. Regardless, it’s back in my life, and it feels so good. Nyjerah had me tuck my Giulia into the silk Orchard skirt, and wow—I did not want to take that thing off. I could have napped in it if I hadn’t been trying to look cute for the camera. For extra warmth, the knit Porter jacket is the most simultaneously-chic-and-comfortable option there is. And for springtime wear, swap the jacket for the Briar earrings in a gorgeous new green hue that’s not available quite yet, but coming pretty soon—just like spring.
